A brief history of our preschool

Towcester Scout Hall Preschool is a non-profit making organisation, which was established in the early 80s by a group of mums who recognised a need for another playgroup in an expanding Towcester, and was known as Scout Hall Playgroup. They operated out of the local Scout Hall and became a popular group, which moved with the changes in Early Years Education that were introduced over the years. In October 2003 vandals destroyed the Scout Hall, which included the loss of all the playgroup’s equipment and resulted in the playgroup having to relocate locally while the hall was rebuilt. In September 2004 the playgroup returned to the newly built Scout Hall, and the staff and committee took the opportunity to rename the setting Towcester Scout Hall Preschool.

Our aims

  • To enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age in a parent-involving, community-based group
  • To provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment
  • To work within a framework that ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families

What we can offer your child

  • The opportunity to learn through play
  • A curriculum that works towards the Early Years Learning Goals
  • Individual care and attention made possible by a high ratio of adult to child
  • Fun and friendship with children and other adults
  • The support of a personal key worker
  • Opportunities for you and your family to be directly involved in the activities of the group and your own child’s progress

How we work

The preschool is registered with the Charity Commission as an educational charity. An elected Parent Voluntary Management Committee runs the preschool; ensuring that major decision-making is in the hands of the parents who use the setting and without which the preschool cannot operate.

We employ 6 staff : 1 supervisor and 5 preschool assistants. Our child adult ratio is 4:1 for 2-3 year olds and 8:1 for 3-4year olds, which are the recommendations in the National Standards.  We are registered with Ofsted and inspected regularly. Our setting works within the framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Ages and session times

The preschool is registered for up to 25 children at each session. We accept children from 2 yrs 6 months to school age. Children can attend up to five sessions a week between 9:15am – 11:45am. When there is sufficient interest, we hold a lunch club, between 11:45am and 12:45pm.

Our fees

Fees are set by the committee at a rate to cover essential running costs; we do not make a profit and aim to keep fees as low as possible. We also accept Childcare Vouchers – please click HERE for more information

Our prechool qualifies for County Funding for 3 and 4 olds, which is paid straight to the prechool. At the present time, funding is available the term after a child is 3 years old. You will receive a form to complete at the start of the relevant term. Children who receive funding will be charged for our lunch club service if they attend
