Introduction to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the framework of development set out by the Dfes for all children between birth and the age of five. The learning that begins in our Preschool is then countined to the end of Reception year at school.

The Early Years Foundation Stage encourages practitioners to plan individually for children’s learning and development including children who have particular needs and disabilities and may need additional support.
Themes for learning

The Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of 4 themes and there are 4 commitments within each of these themes. This section explains each of the themes and the commitments within each area.
A Unique Child
Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships
Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Enabling Environments
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Learning and Development
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
